Strategy

Next two years

In the initial phase, the Endoscape¡¯s spin-off will consist of two operation centers in two geographic locations,

a subsidiary in Seoul, Korea and the headquarters in Silicon Valley.

Primary goals of the Korean operation are to: (1) acquire critical operational experience in building new industry at measured risk and cost and (2) accumulate quantitative metrics for a follow-on financing required for entry and expansion in US within two years from the start of operation.

The aims of the US operation are to: (1) provide logistical support through R&D for the Korean operation and (2) lay the groundwork through marketing and business development activities for future entry and expansion in the US market.

Future

Ÿ Major expansion of service operation into the US followed by international sites

Ÿ Benchmark: Vertically integrated dialysis products/services company, Convenient Care Clinics

Ÿ Develop/introduce specialized scope/accessories for integrated colon preparation/colonoscopy service

Ÿ Develop/execute plans for offering full-service colonoscopy

The Root

The founder of Endoscape is an Experimental High Energy Physicist and former physics professor. In addition to research in the High Energy Physics field, such as those carried out at accelerator laboratories, he had been involved in the development of novel radiation-based medical imaging technologies prior to founding

Endoscape.

A subject of his research in this regard had to do with adapting conventional Positron Emission Tomography (known as PET) technology for use inside the colon for diagnosis of colon cancer and staging (management) of cancer treatment, which he named ¡°Positron Emission Colonography (PEC)¡±. A US patent has been issued

for this invention.

In the course of the research he conceptualized a mechanical device for bringing PEC imaging module to the site of interest inside the colon, which, he found after the fact, might be useful for solving various colonoscopy problems and became the technological basis of Endoscape. Although functional, the prototype device based on this idea proved to be impractical.

However, the experience gained through this failed effort laid a critical foundation for successful development of present core platform technologies of Endoscape and just as importantly, fully automated manufacturing technologies following several years of additional development efforts.
